Streets of the World – Visiting 194 countries in 5 years

A bit strange for a RetRome blogpost, but this project has to be forwarded: befriended Dutch photographer Jeroen Swolfs is doing the once-in-lifetime adventure: a dazzling trip to all (all? yes, ALL) 194 capitals of the world in 5 years. His objective is to capture differences and resemblances around the globe. This giga project will result in a fantastic book with one image of every capital. In his first year, Swolfs has covered a big piece of Asia and Oceania.

His adventures can be followed through Twitter, Facebook and his own website Streets of the World. On the website you will find pictures of the countries he has visited so far, and also some short movie impressions of his working conditions. It is probably hardly worth mentioning, but Jeroen has chosen Rome as home base for his last leg: Europe. However, this will not be for another three years!

140th birthday of Italy

After a nine year struggle (1861-1870) the pope surrendered to general Garibaldi and king Victorio Emmanuel II (who is now burried in the Pantheon), after which Italy was finally united. This year Italy celebtrates it’s 140th birthday. Rome, as the country’s capital, will be center of festivities. Though a bit awkward: the loser of this war, the pope, is still important and influential in Rome (or in the Vatican to be exact) and will be subject to the festivities held on behalf of his defeat.

Rome is celebrating, but not without taking the pope into account. Details about the festivities, which will peak in September, will be placed on our blog a.s.a.p.

Mixing Prosecco with… Crodino

Prosecco cocktailRome feels like an oven (though no reason not to visit of course), so a recipe for a nice fresh cocktail seems to be the right thing to do:

* a cold bottle of Prosecco
* 2 or 3 bottles of Crodino
* ice
* mint

Well, you will probably understand what to do when you see the ingredients above. But, let’s be thorough: Pour half a bottle of Crodino into a glass, add a bit of ice and fill it up with Prosecco. Top it off with a bit of mint etc. Crodino can be found in some supermarkets or in liquor stores. It is a non-alcoholic bittersweet drink, which is often used at aperitivo here in Italy.

Caro Emerald – Back It Up

Readers who have been with us for longer (or who have searched on this page a bit) know her sound already and know that we are fans… Caro Emerald. Back It Up is another great song with a beautiful video clip. Somehow it brings back memories of Cuba, the Caribean and the old days.
